Pet Grooming : Do It yourself Guide

Article by James

How will you feel, if you have not taken shower for weeks, are smelling horrible and had long and dirty nails. Horrible, isn’t it? In the same way your pet feels when it remains untidy from weeks. So, it needs proper Pet Grooming. A happy pet is the one which is clean and tidy all the time. This way, not only your pet looks appealing physically, but it also keeps your pet away from diseases and health problems. Make sure you are grooming your pet correctly. Here are some tips to help you groom your pet easily and effectively :

Brushing Your Pet : Brushing your Dog occasionally will keep your Dog shiny and will also remove the hair which your Animal sheds. Make sure you are using the appropriate brush for this. Long haired breeds will require daily grooming and shorter haired breeds every 3-5 days. Brushing is the most essential and effective part of Animal Grooming and should especially be focused more in summer when the Dog starts shedding its winter coat (hair).

Set Your Animal’s Bath Time: Your Dog needs baths and you should make a schedule to do this each day. This will remove dirt, unwanted smell, etc. from your Animal. Choose the appropriate shampoo which is suitable for your Dog’s skin type. Some times, it is advisable to consult or hire a professional Dog groomer for this.

Clean Your Dog’s Teeth: Make sure you take time to clean your Dog’s teeth everyday. This way your Dog will not smell foul and will not build up plaque.

Clip Your Dog’s Nails Occasionally: Long nails carry dirt and also put scratches on the Dog owner when an excited Dog jumps on them. It is a must, clip your Dog’s nails occasionally as a part of your Dog Grooming.

Ears and Eyes of Your Dog : These parts are generally overlooked, but are as essential in the Dog grooming process as others. An ear cleaner can be used to clean up wax building inside your Dog’s ears. A tear strain remover can be used for removing tear strains from under your Dog’s eyes.

Note: There are some things that you should not do while grooming your Dog. Don’t cut your Dog’s nails above the quick, which is the pink part of the nail. Doing so can be very painful to your Dog. Also don’t cut off your pet’s fur in winters months.

The Effective Way of Caring for your Dog

Article by Richard Perkins

The basic tips for caring for your dog are pretty much the same as the tips for your personal care. What are the basic things that make up your personal list of personal care to do? Most likely it includes taking a bath at least once a day; making your hair either by combing or setting it; trimming your nails, and cutting or styling your hair. Body care and general grooming for dogs involves these very same things. We will briefly highlight three of the main ones here and the benefits they have for your dog.

Bathing your dog will require for you to get a bathing tub or at the least, a basin that your dog can fit in. Dog’s hair or fur will be better cleaned if you use shampoo which is best suited for cleaning these kinds of fibers. Ordinary soap can still serve you well if the shampoo is not an option you want to go for. You will also need to other items for this, a scrubbing brush and a hair dryer. Scrubbing should be done gently, and for younger dogs, you may even prefer to use your hands to be sufficiently gentle. Once you have finished bathing and rinsing the dog, use the dryer the same way you do when drying your hair.

Grooming of pet’s nails is often referred to as peticure. Like human manicure and pedicure, this involves trimming of nails and cleaning them. It is advisable that you use a grooming table for this procedure because of the several features it has. A standard dog grooming table has a friction enhanced surface that prevents skidding as well as a brace to help fasten the dog. These two features are useful because nail trimming is extremely hard, even dangerous when the dog is moving around. To minimize movement even further, place the dog next to your body and hold it with your arm – kind of giving it a side hug.

The last key care item we will discuss here is hair clipping. (Of course, these are not the only care procedures, but these three make the main ones). For this procedure also, your grooming table will prove handy, for the same reasons as above. Additionally, the grooming table can be adjusted to your height which increases your comfort as you work. There are many hair clippers in the market for specifically designed for this work.

10 Valuable Tips For Grooming Your Dog

Article by Douglas Hanna

This article contains valuable information about the do’s and don’ts of dog grooming and why it’s vitally important. Be sure to read this article clear through to the end so that you don’t miss any of this vital information.

Why dogs need to be groomed

Most pooches — especially those with long hair – require regular grooming. This removes dirt, spreads its natural oils throughout its coat, and keeps its skin clean and free from irritation.

Also, canines that are groomed regularly tend to have a healthier and shinier coat because it stimulates the blood supply to the skin.

Just as important, grooming your pooch is a great way to bond with it. If you groom it regularly, it can come to think of it as another form of petting and attention. And do make sure you use a good quality brush and comb.

10 vital tips for grooming your dog

1. Whether your dog is a long-hair or a short-hair you should brush it regularly. This keeps the dog’s coat from matting and helps ensure a bright, shiny coat.

2. Try to bathe your dog at least once monthly. And if he or she is an outdoor dog, you should probably bathe it even more frequently.

3. When you do bathe your dog, make sure you use a soap or shampoo designed specifically for dogs.

4. Blow drying may be recommended for certain breeds, but the preferred method is to let the dog go outdoors and dry naturally.

5. Wash from the front of the dog to its back and do not apply soap or shampoo to the dog’s face.

6. When you’re brushing or grooming the dog, make sure you feel under its coat for lumps or bumps. If you do find any, you should probably schedule a trip to your vet.

7. Clean the dog’s ears with a cotton ball and try not to get water into them.

8. Another important component of good grooming is to trim the dog’s nails. However, make sure you use a nail trimmer designed for dogs and be careful not to cut the nails so short that they begin to bleed. A good rule of thumb is to just cut the tip of the nail.

9. It is also important to brush the dog’s teeth. If you do this once a week, it will help ensure that the dog does not develop dental problems. Be sure to use toothpaste designed for dogs.

10. In the summer, when fleas are out and about, be sure to purchase a flea brush and use it daily, especially if your dog spends most of its time outdoors.

Two other important things to do when grooming your dog are: first, check the dog’s eyes to make sure they are clear. If you see anything out of the ordinary such as mucus or swelling, get your dog to the vet as it may have developed conjunctivitis.

Second, check the dog’s pads to make sure no stones or thorns have become embedded.

Beyond these 10 tips, it is also important to you get your dog to your vet regularly for a check-up. Regular grooming can help keep your dog healthy but regular check-ups are critical in maintaining it’s health.

How to Do Wash And Groom Your Dog

How to Do Wash And Groom Your Dog

Article by Arielson Albert

As a dog owner myself, I understand it can get very expensive in the long run to send your favourite dog for professional grooming. Therefore, if you are keen in saving the money spend on professional dog grooming on other dog related stuff, it is a wise move to learn how to wash and room your pet dog yourself. However, you still need to have some basic understanding and knowledge of washing and grooming your dog before going ahead.

If you have a big pet dog, you are not going to have a easy time dealing with it. First of all, ensure that you have ready in place all the dog grooming tools, accessories and supplies within easy reach. Essential tools includes nail clippers, hair dryer, grooming scissors, grooming brush, grooming shampoo and last but not least a grooming comb.

Make sure you enclose your dog in a secure place, preferably in the toilet. Remember to close or secure the door or enclosure, failure to do so may result in often hilarious and frustrating situations. Otherwise you may find yourself having a big wet dog running all over you house and you will have a hard time cleaning up all the mess your dog has leave behind after each grooming session.

Next, we will move on to the steps involve in washing and trimming your dog’s coat. Once your dog is in the bathtub, slowly turn on the shower to avoid frightening your dog. Once your dog’s coat is wet nicely, turn the shower off and start to trim your dog’s coat using the grooming scissors.

Depending on the season, you can choose to trim it short or just a bit. For instant if it is during the cooler season, you would want to keep it long and just trim a bit off so that your dog can keep warm during the cooler seasons. Whereas, if it is during the hot summer months, trimming it short will be a better option.

Once you are done trimming your dog’s coat, the next step will be to clip the nails. Do note that you should clip only when necessary such as the nails being very much longer than it should be. Otherwise, if your dog do walks on pathways and pavements, that will naturally file the nails to the proper length. Once your are done with the trimming and clipping, make sure you collect and dispose them properly.

The last step is to shampoo your dog. On word of caution though, do not use too much shampoo. The correct amount of shampoo to use for a big dog is about a palm full whereas for smaller dogs you should use lesser shampoo instead. Slowly massage the shampoo into your dog’s coat. If you find any eye crusts at the corners of its eyes, make sure you clean them away as well.

Once the shampoo is well massage into the coat and the coat is completely covered with shampoo, you can turn on the shower to rinse its coat. Rinse it well a few times until all the shampoo is well wash away. End the pet grooming session by towel drying your pet dog’s coat and using a hair dryer on medium heat to blow dry its coat.

As you can see, washing and grooming your dog can be a very easy task if you know how to do it properly. You can virtually save a ton by washing and grooming your dog yourself. The only thing is that do you have the commitment and desire to learn how to wash and groom your dog in the first place.
