Buying Dog Clothes

Article by Brad Woodward

Buying Dog ClothesIn buying dog clothes there are several things to consider. Clothes for your dog may seem to some, a silly idea, or just something that only women buy to show off their dogs. But for some breeds it is almost mandatory that they be clothed. Those breeds don’t have hair are prone to the elements especially when they are outside. Keeping your hairless dogs warm and protected from the sun is important. Of course you want your dog to look good too and not just have any rag on them. When your hairless dog is in indoors, protecting them from sunburn when the sit in the window of your hose or car is also important. You will want your dog to have quality dog clothes too. Many places sell inexpensive clothes that look good but are not made very well. The material is too thin or rough on your dogs sensitive skin and the thread used in the seams is weak. That causes the seams to come apart in a very short time. The thin material won’t protect your dog from the harmful UV rays either. Then there is fashion. You will want your kids/dogs to look good when they go out and be dressed, as you are, for the occasion. But the clothes must be OK for the dog to wear. I saw a “Funniest Home Videos” show the other day where a dog was dressed in a wedding dress and had gone all over it, getting both the dress and the girl dressing him wet. I don’t think the person that made the dress had much experience in making dog clothes. They have to be made to allow the dog to relieve themselves without getting their outfit soiled. If you are making your own clothes for your dog they are different for male and female dogs. Please take that into account. Clothes can be fashionable and look good on your pup as well, whether you are carrying them or have them on a leash. A stylish dog collar and leash are a must here too.Of course you will want your outfits to be unique, made well and be a great value, and not cost as much as your own outfit. Those are hard to find all in one place so shopping around is definitely worth doing. It wouldn’t seem that buying dog clothes would be anything but just doing a search, finding a site and picking out what strikes your fancy and your pocketbook. But taking into account the quality of the cloths, the fashion, and the uniqueness of them will all add up to a great value. Just because it is expensive does not mean it is well made or that there isn’t a lot of other owners with the same item. We have all the above at Pup Designer Clothes.com

I have 3 kids/dogs of my own. I love dogs and have a web site to sell designer dog clothes.

Dog Clothes question by AbbyH: Is it ok to put dog clothes on rabbits?
I dont actually have a rabbit, but if i got one, i would totally do it. I am also planning on walking it on a leash. Dont say-well, just get a dog!-because the chances of me getting a dog are like one in a billion and the chances of me getting a rabbit are one in twenty.

Don’t put clothes on your pets. They’re animals, not DOLLS. If you want something you can dress up, get a Barbie.

Professional Or Do-It-Yourself Dog Grooming

It seems these days the price for everything is on the rise and now that the holiday buying season is over those bills will soon arrive. Wouldnt it be great if you could hold on to more of your hard-earned money even save a little to perhaps spend on something else? Well grooming your dog from home is a wonderful place to start.

Taking your dog to the groomer can cost anywhere from to 0 per visit and if go three to four times a year the cost can add up. Some dog owners take their dogs once a month spending two to three thousand dollars annually. There are some considerations to look at before you embark on do it yourself dog grooming first being your grooming area.

Ask yourself, where is the best spot for me to groom my dog? For small breeds, a utility sink might be the best choice; medium size breeds the bathtub is usually fine, but for large breeds, your own bathtub may be difficult. However, a dog wash tub setup near a utility sink would be perfect.

By using a dog wash tub for larger breeds gives you the freedom of walking around your dog while they are safely contained in the tub. This makes the job easier to clean and rinse those otherwise hard to reach spots when using your own bathtub. Nevertheless, let us say you are really going to save some cash and use your own bathroom for now, what will you need?

For most pet owners a dog brush or dog combs is something they already have you will need to add quality dog shampoo and perhaps a conditioner to your dog grooming supplies. With variety of dog shampoos on the market you only need to know what you dog needs; that is, does he/she have sensitive skin, dry skin, etc?

For long haired dogs in their shedding season a deshedding shampoo is a great choice for removing the undercoat and reducing the pesky hair all over your house. Remember to use only dog shampooand conditioner designed for dogs. Human products will dry out your dogs skin and cause irritations even baby shampoo.

Have plenty of towels at the ready for when the bath is finished so that you can thoroughly dry your dog. While using your own hairdryer is fine for smaller dogs on medium to large dogs the dryer is likely to overheat. There are several types of professional dog grooming dryers on the market available for you to purchase that will do a great job.

The next step in do it yourself dog grooming is clipping your dogs nails. The best dog nail clippers to own are ones that come with a safety guard which prevents you from clipping into the quick. The process will be simple if your groomer has never clipped into the quick; however, if this has happened to your dog it is something they will not forget and may struggle when it comes time for dog nail clipping.

Lastly and perhaps most important, is taking care of your dogs dental hygiene. Most people forego this part of the do it yourself dog grooming finding that most dogs prefer to eat the toothbrush instead of allowing you to brush their teeth. As dogs are just as susceptible to the same mouth diseases as humans are, it is something that needs to be done not only for over all heath but to save considerable money. Professional teeth cleaning from your vet can cost up to 0 or more if their teeth are in bad shape.

By brushing your dogs teeth, once a month and using dog dental treats in between brushing you can reduce that cost to more than half and wait until they are several years old before their first professional cleaning.

Even if you decide to buy a dog wash tub, professional dog grooming dryer, the most expensive dog shampoo and dog cologne, the cost for these will be realized in the first few months by saving on professional grooming. Use your own bathtub and towel dry, you will save money after your first do it yourself dog grooming session and your dog will love the extra attention from his/her master.

Proper Pet Grooming Tools are a Must

You wouldn’t dare think of sending your children off to school with their hair looking like a rats nest. The whole neighborhood would go nuts gossiping about what an unfit parent you must be. The exact same principle also applies for your pets, whether you know it or not. If your dogs hair looks mangy and unkempt people are going to judge you like it or not.

A Nice Comfortable Dog Brush

This is why it is an absolute must that you purchase and use proper dog grooming tools to use on your fury friend from time to time. The first item on your list, should of course be a nice sturdy dog brush. Not just any dog brush will do either, because underneath all that fur your dog has sensitive skin.

Use Only rounded Scissors

Next on your list should be a nice pair of rounded dog hair scissors, for trimming around their ears face and rear end. Don’t even consider using your set of pointed scissors that you have in your kitchen drawer. This is because, all it takes is one slight poke and rover will never again let you near him with any type of grooming tools.

Doggie Pedicure Tools

Dog toe nail clippers are also a must. They are designed specifically for this task and nothing else will suffice. Also, you will need a sturdy pair of tweezers for removing any ticks or fleas that you come across when you are grooming your dog. A dab of alcohol on a Q-.tip also works wonders on fleas.

Soap and Doggie Treats

While you are at it, pick up some dog soap to wash your special friend with from time to time. Some breed of dogs have skin that is sensitive to cleanings and it can cause a rash, so you may want to research to see if you have that breed of dog. Lastly, pick up a bag of dog treats to reward your dog with after you are through with your session and it will tend to be compliant the next time you groom it.

Dog breed: Cocker spaniel

1431139884 d74149ae7e m Dog breed: Cocker spaniel

A person who is serious about owning a pet will do a lot of investigating before he or she makes a final breed selection. If you are considering owning a Cocker Spaniel, consider these facts …

The Cocker Spaniel loves to be around people and loves attention and affection. This breed will follow you everywhere, and can sometimes get under your feet. They want to be your best friend. They are very demanding, they want to eat now – not in five minutes.

When you see the Cocker Spaniels competing at dog shows, their coats are perfect. With long feathers and perfectly cut heads and backs. Don’t be fooled, they are not just born looking that way. It takes a lot of work to keep their coats in show condition. Obviously, if you are not planning to show your Cocker Spaniel, you probably will not have the perfect show cut. However, they do require a considerable amount of maintenance. The younger Cockers tend to have fur that grows faster than the older ones. For instance, my Cocker is three years old and needs a good bath and cut every two weeks. This can get quite costly if you use a upper scale groomer. I have found that the small grooming business owner does an even better job at bathing and grooming that the upscale groomers, ie. Petsmart, etc. When you choose your groomer, you must make sure that their clippers are cleaned between each and every pet they groom. Cocker Spaniels have very sensitive skin and can develope “hot spots” (patches of extermely dry infected skin) if the clippers are not cleaned properly. Trust me, a little spot will turn into a big spot – Cockers love to lick their paws and any patch of skin they can.

In addition to frequent bathing and grooming, it is very important that you keep their long floppy ears clean. A little OtiCleanse every couple of days does the trick for me. Cockers can develop horrible ear infections that you can smell from the next room if regular cleaning is not done. Most young Cockers hate to have you sticking a piece of cotten in their ear to clean it, I usually have to struggle with this twenty pound little girl, and then reward her with a treat.

Speaking of treats, Cocker Spaniels have very sensitive digestive systems and should absolutely not be feed any human food. I recommend Canidae dry dog food and Iams small biscuts. Every once in a while, a small amount of vanilla ice cream is a nice treat for these dogs especially in the summer time when it is very hot. Any type of human food containing grease,

Dogs for people with allergies

The Hypo-Allergenic Dog Myth!

If you are looking to buy or adopt a dog but have a dog allergy, please be aware despite popular uneducated belief, there is no such thing as a hypoallergnic dog.

The dog allergy is triggered by dander. Dander is made up of dead skin, saliva, and urine. Guess what – all dogs have all 3 of those things. Hence, no hypo-allergenic dog.

Fortunately, some dogs have dander that isn’t strewn around as easily as others. For example, a poodle doesn’t shed it’s hair like the majority of dogs. Poodles have fur like human hair – it grows. Yes, it falls out, as does mine, but the poodle doesn’t shed it’s coat yearly or biyearly (or constantly like one of my pups!). Plus, poodles are often groomed. All of this grooming plus not shedding gives their dander little opportunity to get all over your house and trigger your allergy. If this dog wasn’t groomed properly or if you had very severe allergies, you would definitely have an allergic reaction to this supposedly “hypoallergenic” dog.

Even hairless dogs have hair, skin, saliva, and urine. These dogs can trigger even more allergies because the hair is too fine to trap any of the dander.

I have a very mild allergy to dogs and I also have 6 dogs. Some of them do aggravate my allergies more than the others – especially as puppies. I was moderately allergic to one of my dogs when he was a puppy – I would even break out into hives where my more sensitive skin (inner arm, neck, face, etc) touched his fur. Now that he’s an adult dog, he doesn’t trigger my allergies at all.

My point, basically, is that if you are severly allergic to dogs, you may need to consider another pet. You won’t be happy when you are constantly having a severe allergy attack and you’ll be even more upset when you have to find your beloved pet a new home. Please don’t adopt or buy a dog unless you know it won’t trigger your allergies (some people may be able to find a breed or particular dog that doesn’t trigger so many allergies) or unless you know you can live the next 10-20 years suffering with your allergic reaction to the dog, even if it worsens.

There are millions of dogs that need great homes, yes. But, adopting a dog and later needing to find it another home because it’s triggering your allergies is contributing to the problem of homeless pets. Please do your research before adopting or buying any dog. If you have allergies, you may need to find another pet that will better suit your needs. Getting a dog just because you want one is not only selfish but it’s also very unfair to the dog.
