Andis and Oster clipper blades are interchangeable as you know.Personally l prefer the Oster gold a-5 but that is a personal choice depending on how many dogs you are grooming and if they are pups.l hate the Wahl as they are noisy and cannot be repaired properly and the Andis are used by many groomers especially the Ultra edge 2 speed although to tell you the truth l am not over fond of two speed at all.if you contact Andis and talk to them re noise levels they are more skilled hen anyone here unless a professional groomer.You aLuckyky if in the States as it sound like you are as you can get far cheaper products than us in my country as our power voltage is different so they have to be nade for our country and cannot be bought dirrectly from oster or Andis.If you have a good person servicing your clippers he is the best person to ask ashe knows all brands and is competent to give a good answer.When l do pups l use a small Oster red domestic clipper,very very quiet but no longer avail as pups freak out with noise.l am not a preofessional groomer but do groom many dogs l have sold plus my own for shows and they are onlclippeded in certain areas.Out of interest try one of the top andis blades ans see if that helps.the other thing l find is when l have the radio on full blast the dogs do not seem to react to the noise of clippers as much.

You also need to consider the maintenance level of specific breeds, some need to be groomed more than others, and some shed more as well.

In my research I found the following dog breeds (and there are more than I felt compelled to list) that are good with kids and the basic characteristics for that specific breed:

Boston Terrier; Noted for being good with kids and suitable for most any type of lifestyle, intelligent, and they should only weight, at the most, 25lbs. Boston Terriers have short, fine hair, and are easy to groom.

Jack Russell Terrier; This breed is recommended for the more active lifestyle, intelligent, lively, they do require a lot of attention, can be aggressive if not trained properly, tolerable of children. The Jack’s coat is short and smooth, broken, or rough, easy to groom.

Maltese; This is a good, small protective breed of dogs. Maltese do have long silky hair and are considered “high maintenance” when it comes to grooming. Children must be supervised due to the fragile nature of this breed.

Shih Tzu; This is a good natured, non-aggressive, friendly dog. Due to their long coat they require daily brushing, but a plus is that they are non-shedding. Children should be supervised, this breed is also fragile, but a good choice.

Bichon Frise; Known to be good with kids and other animals, intelligent, easy to train, and lively. Plus this is also a non-shedding breed.

Dachshund; These little “wieners” are good with family members, but have been know to show aggression towards children outside of their “pack”. They make watch dogs, but may have problems learning to use the bathroom outside. They come in short-hair and long-hair varieties, even as a miniature. Grooming should be considered low maintenance and shedding is minimal.

The most important factor in keeping your dog occupied and happy is the dog’s breed. Each breed has certain characteristics that are inherant to that breed. They are happiest when they are able to freely do what comes natural to them. I have a miniture poodle, poodle are smart and require alot of mental stimulation to be happy. She loves to play fetch and have her toys to play with. She also is happiest in a routine. My mom’s jack russell terrier is a different story. Though she is small, she is happiest with lots of room to run and jump. Jack Russells also love to hunt. My mother’s Jack Russell would not be happy in a home with out constant excersice and play.

In my experience, most dogs love having a space to call their own. In my dogs case, she loves her kennal. It is not a place for punishment, and I never make her go into the kennal. She goes on her own, and in fact, during the day that is where you will find her. It’s her place to get away from my 3 year old or just nap. She has learned how to open and close her kennal at will. It is her haven. All dogs should have a place that is just theirs. Sometimes they just want that space to take a nap or be alone.

Good grooming is also a part of keeping a dog happy. Regular baths and brushing make them feel better. My dog loves her baths. Also, it gives you and your dog special one on one time.

Grooming also keeps them neat and clean, and helps minimize possibility of fleas, ticks, or a skin infection. With a poodle, like I have, regular grooming is a necessity.

Dogs love regular play, some more than others. Pick toys that are durable, and most of all toys that your pet likes. Stuffed animals that squeak are always a hit. Routine exercise such as playing fetch or walking is also a great way to keep your dog happy, healthy, and in shape. So keeping your dog on a good diet and exercise plan is very important.

It may seem that caring for a dog, and keeping them happy is alot of work. It does require some time, and we all know the hours seem to be full enough. Having a healthy happy dog is a great way to relieve stress and take your mind off your day. Instead of coming home from work stressed and going right to the television set, head outside for a vigourous game of fetch. It is great exercise and lots of fun! The quick is a small blood vessel that runs down the nail but not to the end of the nail. In addition to the nail clippers, styptic powder should be in your dog grooming tool kit. Styptic powder very quickly stops the bleeding if you’ve cut into the nail quick.

Tweezers are useful for removing stickers, debris and splinters. Dip them in alcohol before and after each use to sanitize the tweezers. A small bottle of alcohol should be in your kit for this purpose.

It contains enzymes that help break down tarter and freshen breath.
