Grooming Books

Article by Alice Carter

Nowadays we can find books and courses on almost anything we want to do. Dog grooming books are not any different. There are many them out there. It is hard to be able to choose which ones are worth it and which of them are not. You can trust me which I say we found that almost all were just junk that was not even worth the time it took us to get them! Hopefully, I will be able to help you on to the right path of learning dog grooming.

First off, taking dog grooming instructions is an excellent idea. The cash that can be saved by dog bathing in the home and performing some grooming touch up could be monumental. If you are able to skip every other trip you normally take towards the groomer then you are already cutting your usual cost in half. Most of the dog grooming books we checked out actually cost less than half of what a normal trip to the groomer would cost.

We looked at hundreds of dog grooming books, some in print and some online. We tend to prefer the e book versions of most books for two main reasons. We’re very impatient and like to get our purchase instantly. We also like that the refund process is often very easy if we’re not satisfied. All of the top three books we recommend give you at least 56 days to check the books out.

We narrowed the books down to three of the top that we found. The first one, “Secrets to Easy Dog Grooming” was our top pick. It was so cleanly laid out and the instructions were so descriptive and well…easy! It had the lowest price tag and we felt we got way more for our money. Additionally they offer a bunch of very well written bonus books so you really get the most value for your money.

The second dog grooming book was called “Grooming Your Dog At Home”. This one was also very easy to follow along with. We named this one number 2 because we loved all the pictures inside the instructions. This book is also priced very low. One really cool feature that sets this book apart is the “pro tips” provided along the way by professional groomers. Oh yeah, be sure to check out their free mini course.

The third book was titled “Pet Grooming Course“. This one is a little different. First we noticed a larger price tag. Once we took a look inside we realized why. Not only does this book provide full and complete dog grooming instructions it also outlines the steps in opening a pet grooming business. This is a superb resource for someone looking to make some extra money grooming dogs on the side. You could easily make back the investment inside the book after your first appointment.

dog grooming question by BidCH.com – Free Auctions!: How to take your dog for grooming without messing out your car?
Hi there,

I’d like to take my dog for grooming, but I don’t want to put it in my new car, because her fur will be all over. Any suggestion to resolve my headache?

Sorry, but that’s all part of dog ownership. Hair hair everywhere. Try putting a doggie slip cover on your seat when traveling with your pet. They have all different kind at petsmart. I just use an old quilt that I put on the seat. Then when he gets it all hairy you just remove it wash it and use it again. A vacumm works wonders too on getting dog hair out of the seat fibers.

Learn to groom dogs in 3 easy steps.

Article by E. Michaels

If you are anything like me, you love your dogs and want to keep them groomed as best as possible. Unfortunately, crating, packing up the car and then traveling to the nearest groomer can be stressful to both yourself and your dog, not to mention costly. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to provide your dog a top quality grooming experience in the comfort of your own home? I am going to share with you 3 easy steps that will allow you to begin dog grooming on your own.

Step 1: Learn to Brush. Brushing is the foundation of proper pet grooming, not only does brushing help your dog’s skin and coat health, it will also create a strong bond between you and your dog. Breed standards and coat will determine how often you should be brushing but a basic guideline is to brush daily for silky or long coated dogs and to brush one to two times a week for a short or curly coated dog.

Step 2: Give your dog a bath. Luckily for us, dogs in general tend to be happy to get into water and this makes bathing a snap compared to other home pets. The rule of thumb is that a dog should be bathed every 2 months or so and definitely no more than once per month. The reason for such long periods between bathing is to protect your dog’s natural oils. These oils are what allow dogs to be such great swimmers and also what allows their fur to keep them warm. In the warmest months of the summer, longer haired dogs may require washing as often as every two weeks but if so, it is important to use high quality pet shampoo’s to protect their natural oils and keep their skin from becoming irritated.

Step 3: Dry out your dog’s coat. When drying a dog most people choose to use a towel however it is perfectly fine to use a blow dryer or even a combination of the two. While keeping a calm tone, remove excess water by commanding the dog to shake or by simply petting the dog in long strokes that push out the excess water from the coat. Once excess water is removed, use towels to hand dry the dog from the head to the back and then from the sides to the underside, chest, legs and tail.

In this article I have shared the three basic steps of successful dog grooming: brushing, washing and drying. As always, consult your dog’s breed standard before grooming to ensure the highest level of care. If you have a knack for dog grooming and are interested in starting your own dog grooming business, I recommend you check out John and Debbie Pelton’s excellent online grooming course. Not only will they teach you all that you need to know, they will also provide you with valuable job assistance and a beautiful certificate.

Grooming Needs of Miniature Schnauzers

Grooming Needs of Miniature Schnauzers

Article by Lea Mullins

Miniature Schnauzers have a striking and unique appearance. Their look, and overall health, is dependant on good dog grooming practices.

Miniature schnauzers have a double coat. This means that they have a soft, short haired coat under a long haired coat. Occasional “haircuts” are required to help keep the coat from matting. What other upkeep is required?

Besides the coat trimming, the dog needs regular baths, nail trimming, tooth brushing and having the anal glands expressed. Some owners enjoy doing the grooming themselves, while others prefer hiring a groomer to do it.

If you decide to use a groomer, visit the groomer before taking the dog. Check for cleanliness and if the groomers are adequately trained. Another consideration is what chemicals or soaps will be used on the dog. Also check the area where your Miniature Schnauzer will be kept before and after grooming.

Like any other business, get referrals and call them. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints.

There are several grooming aids that you’ll need if doing the grooming yourself. These items include clippers, combs, shears, toenail clippers, dog shampoo, conditioner and dog toothpaste. They should all be readily available at the larger pet supply retailers.

Before clipping your pet, take a look at a Schnauzer grooming chart. This will give you an idea of how to get the look that’s associated with this breed of dog.

It’s also important to regularly brush your dog’s coat. If the dog isn’t brushed frequently enough, its coat can become so matted that the mats have to be cut out.

An area of grooming that’s sometimes overlooked is dental hygiene. Some dogs love having their teeth brushed. Others act like they’re being killed. Regardless to how your dog reacts, it’s an essential element in grooming.

Not brushing can lead to tooth and gum disease that can threaten the dog’s life. Be sure to use dog toothpaste. Dogs may drool sometimes, but they can’t spit. Some of the ingredients in human toothpaste may be harmful to the dog if swallowed.

Your Miniature Schnauzer will periodically need to have its nails trimmed. This is frequently included as part of the package at the groomers. If you’re going to do it yourself, be sure to get dog specific toenail clippers. You might want to get a styptic pencil too.

The thing to be careful of when trimming nails is that you don’t cut the quick. That’s where the styptic pencil comes in. Even the pros occasionally make a mistake!

Another, sometime unpleasant, aspect of dog grooming is expressing the anal glands. The anal glands are two small sacs located on either side of the dog’s anus. They secrete a fluid into the feces during the dog’s bowel movement. This fluid produces a scent unique to that dog.

When this fluid isn’t released it begins to thicken and can lead to infection. For the dogs health it’s important that the groomer or vet periodically removes the fluid.

Pet owners need to make sure that all of these aspects of dog grooming are addressed. This will lead to a happier, healthier Miniature Schnauzer.
