How to Do Wash And Groom Your Dog

Article by Arielson Albert

As a dog owner myself, I understand it can get very expensive in the long run to send your favourite dog for professional grooming. Therefore, if you are keen in saving the money spend on professional dog grooming on other dog related stuff, it is a wise move to learn how to wash and room your pet dog yourself. However, you still need to have some basic understanding and knowledge of washing and grooming your dog before going ahead.

If you have a big pet dog, you are not going to have a easy time dealing with it. First of all, ensure that you have ready in place all the dog grooming tools, accessories and supplies within easy reach. Essential tools includes nail clippers, hair dryer, grooming scissors, grooming brush, grooming shampoo and last but not least a grooming comb.

Make sure you enclose your dog in a secure place, preferably in the toilet. Remember to close or secure the door or enclosure, failure to do so may result in often hilarious and frustrating situations. Otherwise you may find yourself having a big wet dog running all over you house and you will have a hard time cleaning up all the mess your dog has leave behind after each grooming session.

Next, we will move on to the steps involve in washing and trimming your dog’s coat. Once your dog is in the bathtub, slowly turn on the shower to avoid frightening your dog. Once your dog’s coat is wet nicely, turn the shower off and start to trim your dog’s coat using the grooming scissors.

Depending on the season, you can choose to trim it short or just a bit. For instant if it is during the cooler season, you would want to keep it long and just trim a bit off so that your dog can keep warm during the cooler seasons. Whereas, if it is during the hot summer months, trimming it short will be a better option.

Once you are done trimming your dog’s coat, the next step will be to clip the nails. Do note that you should clip only when necessary such as the nails being very much longer than it should be. Otherwise, if your dog do walks on pathways and pavements, that will naturally file the nails to the proper length. Once your are done with the trimming and clipping, make sure you collect and dispose them properly.

The last step is to shampoo your dog. On word of caution though, do not use too much shampoo. The correct amount of shampoo to use for a big dog is about a palm full whereas for smaller dogs you should use lesser shampoo instead. Slowly massage the shampoo into your dog’s coat. If you find any eye crusts at the corners of its eyes, make sure you clean them away as well.

Once the shampoo is well massage into the coat and the coat is completely covered with shampoo, you can turn on the shower to rinse its coat. Rinse it well a few times until all the shampoo is well wash away. End the pet grooming session by towel drying your pet dog’s coat and using a hair dryer on medium heat to blow dry its coat.

As you can see, washing and grooming your dog can be a very easy task if you know how to do it properly. You can virtually save a ton by washing and grooming your dog yourself. The only thing is that do you have the commitment and desire to learn how to wash and groom your dog in the first place.

The Dos and Don’ts of Dog Grooming

Having a dog in the house is fun. However, dogs, like any pet, require attention and care. And as a pet owner, grooming your dog is important as it makes your dog clean and healthy. If your dog is well groomed, you will no longer worry petting it, having it inside the house, on your couch, or on your bed.

Most of us think that dog grooming procedures are pretty simple. Well, they probably are or are they? Have you thought about good and bad practices in dog grooming? If you do the grooming yourself, then you will definitely find this information helpful in taking care of your dog the right way. We will look at a few of the fundamental dos and don’ts in this space. Hopefully, these tips will help you be better at grooming your dog.

Bathing: Do bath your dog regularly. While it is not possible to give a blanket rule on exactly how often your dog should be bathed, do it at least once a month. Use shampoo to clean the hair effectively, and a brush. Failure to bath your dog will result in accumulation of dirt, and cause other skin infections. Do not bath your dog too frequently and certainly not daily. This will deplete some of the vital oils on your dog’s skin and guess what lead to the same risks to its skin that not washing can cause such as scratching and skins tear.

Hair clipping and brushing: Do brush your dog’s hair regularly and clip it as often as is necessary. Do use the right tools; here we are talking both brushes and hair clippers. Besides the aesthetic value of hair brushing and clipping, other benefits include the ease of removal of dirt during bathing and the prevention of matting. Do not brush with too much force as this may as it may hurt your dog or cause injury. When matting has occurred, then brush gently or better still, just clip the hair. Do not clip too close to the skin to give your dog a naked look. This will be harmful as it exposes your dog to skins cuts.

Peticure: Do clean your dog’s nails to remove any hidden dirt that may cause infection, and do make sure to trim the nails regularly. Long nails can grow into the soft paw tissue and injure the dog. Use the right nail clippers for this. Do not clip too deep; remember to watch out for the quick and stop clipping to avoid cutting living tissue.

Finally, do specifically clean your dog’s ear. A prerequisite for this is regular checking of the ears to see if there is accumulation of dirt. Do not use sharp objects or clean too deep, you might prick the inside and cause infection. Special ear washing substances exit and you need to use soft cotton without pouring too much liquid in the ear. Should you notice any kind of infection, do not clean, take your dog to a veterinarian.

Pets: The choice between a cat or a dog

4801004175 acfab07c77 m Pets: The choice between a cat or a dog

One may look at myself and find it hard to believe that I am a lover of all animals. To most, I appear to be a typical cat lady. However, I do love and cherish all animals, and believe that certain pets are appropriate for certain people.

If an individual is trying to choose between bringing a dog or a cat into their household, there is much more to this decision than simply deciding which species is more appealing to the eye. Though both cats and dogs make wonderful companions, they both have very different needs, and are able to provide different things to their owners.

Let’s begin with the animals needs. Dogs need much more care and attention than cats do. A dog owner is responsible for feeding, walking, socializing, grooming as well as bathroom breaks. It is important that feeding times and amounts are consistent for the animal’s health and weight. Walking is essential for a dog to maintain health, as well as burn off energy. Failure to walk a dog or provide them with accurate exercise could result in suppressed energy that could be negatively displayed in other ways around the house (i.e. aggression and destructive behaviors). Socializing is another important thing when it comes to our canine friends. Properly socializing a dog will prevent them from becoming overly protective of their owner(s) and being potentially hostile towards strangers. Depending on the breed of dog, grooming can be a quick, or a lengthy chore. Baths are essential, as well as grooming fur. Regular fur trimmings could also be necessary depending on the type of breed. A dog’s owner is also responsibly for taking their dog outside to go to the bathroom. Potty training can be a lengthy and difficult process, and requires a good deal of time and patience.

When it comes to the needs of a cat, the list tends to be a bit shorter. Cats need to be fed, have their litter changed, attention/exercise as well as grooming care. Just as with dogs, regulated feeding times and amounts are important to proper health. Potty-training a cat is relatively easy since cats have a natural tendency to use the litter box on their own. Exercising your cat can be as simple as having another cat companion that your cat enjoys playing with, or having adequate toys available. Cats bathe themselves, so generally the only grooming required involves a good brush.

As far as what each animal can provide to their owners, I believe first and foremost that unconditional love is a given. When treated well, cats and dogs both love their owners. They provide affection, consistency and companionship. Dog’s can be the jogging partner you have always wanted. Cats can be the couch-cuddling companions you adore while reading a favorite book.

In general, when faced with someone that is having a hard time choosing a cat or a dog, I ask them to look at their lifestyle. Someone who is very busy and is rarely home would not make a good dog owner. Remember that dog’s need more care than cats including regular bathroom breaks. Cats are more self-sufficient, therefore, deal better with only a few hours of attention and care a day. Regardless of which animal you feel will suit you best, I guarantee that choosing one of these wonderful life-companions will be a decision you will never regret.
