Unveiled Secrets of Professional Dog Groomers

Article by vladimir ostos

The hallmark of a healthy, happy and good looking pet is brought about by the kind of grooming that is offered to the pet. Whatever the dogs breed it is a basic requirement that dog owners provide grooming sessions so that the dogs can always look and feel their best. Most dog owners prefer to use dog groomers who are better placed to offer such services. However, this does not mean that the owner cannot make the effort and have fun grooming their pets. This requires the dog owner to have knowledge of certain steps that expert groomers use to have the maximum grooming session. These secrets range from how to get rid of unpleasant smells from the pet to which shampoo to use in cleaning the dog.

It is good for dog owners to understand that although dog brushing is an important part of the cleaning process, dog grooming is not all about brushing. It involves various stages of bathing, cleaning the dog’s eyes and ears, trimming their hair and also clipping the pet’s nails. Brushing gets rid of mats and tangled dog hairs. Knowing the correct method to use when brushing and the appropriate type of brush to use for the specific brush types according to the digs hair is also vital. These brushes vary in the sizes of the pin or rubber parts that do most of the brushing. Having the appropriate tools and equipment generally means that the grooming process will not be as difficult as it may seem at times. These tools include clippers, combs and scissors.

The dogs face is its important feature as one can tell more from the look of its face whether they well taken off dogs or not. Cleaning this part of the dog involves the cleaning of its eyes, ears, teeth and nails. The tools to be used her are a clean piece of cloth that is moistened and this is used to swipe on the specific area being cleaned. This piece of clothing should be changed to a fresh one when cleaning another are of the dogs face. It is advisable not to probe too deeply, especially when cleaning the inside flap of the ears. This cleaning should be done regularly to prevent dirt and bacteria from accumulating on the dog’s skin. This is very true with dogs that have loose facial skins.

Shedding in dogs is a common phenomenon and this happens seasonally in almost all dogs. It is important that each dog owners knows the best ways to control how much their dogs shed. It is known for a fact that male dogs shed lees than female dogs. Therefore, this should not be concerned for most pet owners if they happen to see their female shedding every now and then.

The one great benefit of a pet owner cleaning their dog rather than taking them to dog groomers is that they notice signs of inflammation and take the necessary precautions of consulting a vet. Additionally, this grooming session can be a good way of the dog owner bonding with their pet.

dog grooming question by JJ: Dog Grooming business on your own. Could one person handle a shop alone?
I would prefer not to hire employee’s at least to start. This would not be a mobile dog grooming business but a stand alone shop.

yes, you can. I have 3 friends and all of them own grooming shops. At least 2 of them started out by themselves. One still works it on her own, out of her home and she makes really decent money. She usually does about 11-16 dogs per day (depending on the grooming need of the dogs). Even if you charges a flat rate of $ 25 per dog, that’s still a minimum of $ 255 per day. She works 5 days a week but is closed Sat after 1PM and all day on Sunday.
The only thing that’s going to cost you to get started is the equipment you need to have (scissors, brushes, clippers, blades, dryers, cages and of course a tub). There are some sites that you can find on the computer which sell used grooming equipment (such as grooming tables). I would be careful though about buying used clippers and blades. I bought a clipper with 4 blades for $ 100, thinking it was an awesome deal, but the clippers didn’t work and the blades were all dull.
Good luck

Groom Your Dog at Home and Save Time and Money

Article by Jamie Clark

Regular grooming, including brushing, combing, nail trimming and ear & teeth cleaning, will keep your dog clean, attractive and healthy.

Not to mention smelling much better than he or she might otherwise.

If you learn to groom your dog yourself, you can also save hundreds of dollars a year while you build a lasting bond between your pet and you.

In addition, you are more likely to spot any signs of illness, sore areas or cuts and abrasions if you regularly groom your dog. Illnesses are easier to treat if they are caught early.

Getting Starting Grooming Your Dog

Anyone who has tried to bathe an older dog that isn’t accustomed to it will know how difficult it can be.

The sooner you start, and the younger the dog, the sooner he or she will become comfortable with the handling and touching involved. And the easier it will be to do the grooming.

You’ll want to keep those early sessions short — under 5 minutes. Don’t worry if you don’t get everything done. Just let your dog grow accustomed to the grooming.

Many dogs grow to love the attention and start looking forward to their groomings.

Reassure Your Dog as You Groom

While you work be sure to speak softly and reassuringly to your dog. Them him or her what a good dog they are and how much you love them.

If he or she is nervous, start out with just brushing. This feels good to most dogs and will train them that grooming is a good thing. Work on making the brushing longer and longer each time until you are up to the full time necessary to give all the coat a good going over. Stay away from the head, eyes and ears at first so as not to frighten him or her.

Brush the teeth for only a few seconds at first and work up to the full treatment.

Begin bathing your puppy at about 14 weeks old — or sooner if he or she gets especially dirty.

Offer treats during and after all grooming and frequently hugs throughout.

Grooming your dog at home is easy — and can save you many dollars — if you do it right and work up to it.

Would you like to learn to groom your dog at home — even trim their nails and coats yourself?

Consider one of the inexpensive and easy-to-follow Dog Grooming Courses.

Think of how much you will save on just the haircuts alone every year. Hundreds? Much more if you have multiple dogs (like me – 3.)

But, more importantly, you and your dog will start to have a closer bond than ever before. And he or she will be healthier and happier.

It’s really not hard at all to do everything for your dog’s health and happiness once you learn how.

Check out these Dog Grooming Courses now and see for yourself.

Dog Grooming Activities And Their Benefits

If youre a seasoned dog owner and have had dogs in your family for many years, then chances are you know how important it is too groom your dogs on a consistent basis. Doing so promotes good health, hygiene, and happiness youre your dog and also yourself. Grooming your dog regularly is just a good way to give your dog the care the he or she deserves. Here are some grooming activities that will help your dog look and feel his best.

Bathing

Bathing is one of the most important activities with regard to grooming for a number of reasons. Regular bathing helps to promote clean and healthy skin which in turn helps prevent and fight off common skin problems that occur with dogs. Bathing also helps to keep the coats shiny and healthy, not damaged and dull. Your dogs coat type, skin sensitivity, and coat thickness are just a few factors that will help you pick the right shampoo. Its generally a good idea to bath your dog at least once a week in order to maintain healthy skin and coat.

Hair Trimming

Trimming up those areas that require it is also a good task to stay on top of. Most dogs require that the hair on the bottom of their feet be trimmed regularly. This allows them to get better traction on slippery surfaces because the pads on their feet make direct contact with the surface they are walking on instead of having hair between their pads and that surface. If you have wood floors or any other surface that can be slippery, youll notice when the hair has gotten too long on your dogs feet because the will slip when the try to move forward. This can be dangerous if your dog falls awkwardly or unexpectedly. If your dog has long hair around the eyes and ears, it is also a good idea to trim these areas as well. Allowing the hair in these areas to get too long can cause problems. For example, if the hair around the eyes grows too long, then that hair may get into the eyes and cause irritation. The same is true with regard to the ears.

Nail Trimming

Your dogs nails must also be trimmed if they become too long. If this is not done, then the dog may see a reduction in traction while walking or running. But even worse, if the nails are left to grow too long, they could be come painful and irritated your dogs feet. Nail trimming can be done pretty easily with a nail trimmer. When trimming your dogs nails, be sure to only cut the portion of the nails that does not contain the pink fleshy color. Cutting into this area will be painful for your dog and may cause bleeding.

Teeth Cleaning

We all know how important it is to brush our teeth on a regular basis. Well the same holds true with dogs. Regular brushing helps get rid of tarter and plaque buildup on your dogs teeth and also helps promote healthy gums and helps prevent other major issues with the teeth and gums. Your dogs teeth should be cleaned, preferable with an extra soft toothbrush, on a regular basis.

These few tasks can be done on a regular basis to keep your dog healthy and happy and it simply takes a little time and devotion on your part. If you are unable to provide this time for your dog, there are always plenty of groomers willing to do it for you.

Dog Grooming Tables – How To Select The Right One

Any groomer depends on the dog grooming table as the main piece of equipment. Without it, hair de-matting, cutting and nail trimming would be highly difficult. A dog grooming table allows one to get the dog at a reasonable height for easy access to the nails, coat, eyes and ears .

The applications of a dog grooming table are manifold, and the use is extensive in all salons. Moreover, the functionality of other tools is often influenced by the choice of the right dog grooming table. Some tables have a loop, noose or arm incorporated, while others don’t. And the groomer needs such equipment to keep the dog still on the table.

A groomer can choose from many dog grooming table models; diversity comes with differences not only in design, but in price and efficiency as well. It is advisable to buy tables that have a grooming arm or noose incorporated so that you may pay less than you would by making separate purchases. Stationary, electric or hydraulic, the dog grooming table simply makes grooming tasks doable. Electric models are by far the most expensive because they allow the table surface to drop or raise at a comfortable height depending on the size of the dog.

Although cheaper, hydraulic models have a similar functionality principle. There is no stooping or bending, and you don’t have to lift large dogs to the work level. If the more expensive designs are not an option, you can always try the stationary dog grooming table with adjustable legs. The table height can be adjusted manually, as the legs can be locked at whatever level you need. The table top size is also important here, because for professional applications you will need an universal model. As for home use, the dog grooming table has to match the dog breed.

Both pets and owners enjoy good work conditions on a dog grooming table installed at home. The initial investment could be justified if your pet requires lots of grooming sessions per month. Performing the grooming routine at home can save you from paying lots of money to a salon. This is usually possible for small or medium-sized dogs with not-too-thick hair. Otherwise, the dog grooming table remains an item of professional usage that is necessary to any pet treatment center, spa or veterinarian center. The choice of the model is normally influenced by the budget and the usage extent.
