Here are some tips to help you groom your pet easily and effectively :

Brushing Your Pet : Brushing your Dog occasionally will keep your Dog shiny and will also remove the hair which your Animal sheds. Make sure you are using the appropriate brush for this. Long haired breeds will require daily grooming and shorter haired breeds every 3-5 days. Brushing is the most essential and effective part of Animal Grooming and should especially be focused more in summer when the Dog starts shedding its winter coat (hair).

Set Your Animal’s Bath Time: Your Dog needs baths and you should make a schedule to do this each day. This will remove dirt, unwanted smell, etc. from your Animal. Choose the appropriate shampoo which is suitable for your Dog’s skin type. Some times, it is advisable to consult or hire a professional Dog groomer for this.

Clean Your Dog’s Teeth: Make sure you take time to clean your Dog’s teeth everyday. This way your Dog will not smell foul and will not build up plaque.

Clip Your Dog’s Nails Occasionally: Long nails carry dirt and also put scratches on the Dog owner when an excited Dog jumps on them. It is a must, clip your Dog’s nails occasionally as a part of your Dog Grooming.

Ears and Eyes of Your Dog : These parts are generally overlooked, but are as essential in the Dog grooming process as others. An ear cleaner can be used to clean up wax building inside your Dog’s ears. A tear strain remover can be used for removing tear strains from under your Dog’s eyes.

Note: There are some things that you should not do while grooming your Dog. Don’t cut your Dog’s nails above the quick, which is the pink part of the nail. Doing so can be very painful to your Dog. Also don’t cut off your pet’s fur in winters months.

My dog is a 10 pound, 8 month old orange/sable Pomeranian who is extremely friendly and lovable. He knows how to sit and stay somewhat and is almost housebroken. He is affectionate and needs some obedience training. I am selling him with his crate, food bowls, pet gate, grooming supplies, and leash and ID. He has acc papers and has his rabies license and shot and a microchip. I have all his records and am ready to research and sell to an owner who has the financial ability to take care of him. He deserves a good home with a loving family who have the time and money to support him. I’m not sure how to go about it though. I know I’d have to switch over the names on all of his papers, but how much would I sell it for and how would I advertise it and how would I ensure he got a proper home?
We live in NYC and some financial difficulties have come up recently that my family had not forseen. I love him and I know that it is unfair to him to have to live in a home that can no longer give him everything he needs.

Most people believe that when buying a short haired dog they are getting a pet with little maintenance when the reality is that a short haired breed of dog such as the beagle sheds a lot sometimes year round depending on the climate where you and your beagle make your home. So if you do not want your friends and family to think you have a new designer sofa made from fur then you need to follow a consistent routine of brushing and other required grooming tasks.

The Beagle needs to be bathed only every three to four months; however the ears need to be cleaned weekly, this is especially important in a drop-eared type of dog such as the Beagle. The reason for this is that because of the weight of the ear and the fact that the flap covers the whole ear, very little air gets into the ear canal resulting in an ear that is persistently moist; ideal conditions for an ear infection. Your beagle’s ears can be cleaned by using commercially available dog ear cleaner and several clean cotton balls, place a few drops of ear cleaner on the cotton ball and gently wipe out the ear paying special attention to the crevices. Never insert anything into the ear canal itself or pour ear cleaner directly into the ear. Follow with a clean dry cotton ball until you no longer see dirt on it.

Your beagle’s nails should be checked monthly to see if they need clipping. Dogs that spend enough time walking on hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete need less regular nail trims if at all. If you are not comfortable clipping your beagles nails yourself it is easy enough to drop by a grooming salon or have them done when you are at the vet’s office.

The most time-intensive part of grooming your beagle is going to be brushing. Regular brushing will cut down on the amount of shedding your dog does and it also plays a vital role in keeping your beagle in tip-top condition with a healthy, shiny coat. Keep to a regular brushing schedule with your pet, twice weekly is ideal but once a week is certainly sufficient. You will need a rubber tipped brush such as a Zoom Groom to properly brush your beagle’s coat.Starting at the top of your dog’s head and using short firm strokes brush your beagles coat in the direction of the hair growth. Continue brushing in this manner until there is no more dead and flyaway hair coming off. If this is the first time using a rubber tipped brush on your dog you will be amazed at how much hair you pick up. Enough to make another beagle!

As you can see having a short haired dog does not lessen your responsibilities in the grooming department but without the extra expense of regular haircuts that longer haired dog’s owners incur it is certainly less expensive and very manageable.

Brush your dog often .

Brushing will stimulate oils in your pets skin & keep it moist & healthy. Brushing will prevent matting of your dogs coat. Brushing is a great way to show your dog attention. Brushing eliminates dead hair in the coat that contributes to shedding.

Maintain the length of your dogs nails.

You can walk your dog often to wear down nails. Clip your dogs nails on a regular basis. If they are cut too short they can bleed & sting. Groomers usually charge a little less than veterinarians to cut nails. If you believe your dog will be aggressive about getting their nails cut it is best to take them to the veterinarian.

Bathe your dog regularly.

Buy dog shampoos & conditioners from pet stores. Do not use flea & tick shampoos unless your pet needs them, they can dry out your pets skin. Be sure to rinse your dog thoroughly, leaving soap on skin can cause problems. Bathing a dog with knots & mats will worsen them, be sure to eliminate these before or immediately after the bath.

When drying your dog use low heat. Dogs are sensitive to burning, keep this in mind while adjusting water temperature. Bathing your dog will cut down on chances of infestations of fleas & ticks. Place cotton in your dogs ears before bathing. Often water in the ears can lead to ear infections. By washing away dead hair, regular bathing reduces shedding of your dogs coat.

Keep your dogs ears clean

Do this with dog ear cleaner bought from any pet store. Put a small amount of ear cleaner on a cotton ball and swab outer surface of the inner ear. Keeping your dogs ears clean & dry will reduce chance of ear infections & ear mites. You can also buy ear wipes from any pet store to keep your dogs ears clean.

Dog groomers & veterinarians can also clean your pets ears for you. Many longhaired dogs grow hair in their ears that needs to be pulled to prevent ear infections. This hair can be gently pulled out with hemostats. Most people leave this to their groomer or vet.
