Dog Crate question by dani: What type of dog crate is best to buy for disaster evacuations?
Ever since I heard about all the dogs left behind during Katrina and the ones that were not allowed into shelters because their owners didn’t have proper crates for them, i have been so worried the same would happen to my dogs. Although I think I’d rather die in a disaster than leave my dogs behind, I want to be prepared in case this happens. Are there certain crates that are acceptable for evacuations on public transit and entrance into shelters? There are so many different types and I just don’t know if certain ones would not be permissable for this purpose. Can anyone help?

First of all Red Cross opens most disaster shelters they do not allow pets in any shelters other than assistance dogs for the handicapped. Churches usually will take in animals and people. You need to call around and find out where you plan to evacuate in case of an emergency Red Cross and your county emergency management will have information on shelters designated for your county. If you plan to fly with your pet you have to have a carrying case approved by the FAA for travel. Most people from Katrina did not take pets to shelters because it was not permitted not due to the wrong pet carrier.

Dog Grooming Supplies question by Gem: I need help on whether to stay where I am or switch venues for my dog grooming business?? please help!!?
I’m a pet groomer in a small town in Colorado. I just moved here not to long ago and right now I’m working out of a store, that before me was just a self service wash and pet supplies. I pay her 40%,of what whatever i make with my grooming, for using her tubs, shampoos, and dryers. I can groom before, after and during store hours. people call me for appointments and we both keep track of what i make and what I’ve payed her. She has changed all her adds to say that she now offers full-service grooming.

But i have just got an offer to be the groomer in a new kennel and training place. the lady who is starting it is an amazing trainer who has some existing ideas. She loves me and the way i handle the animals and care for them and she told me that she would have a room in her building just for me. with all the tables and tubs and dryers that i want! and she will let me study under her as a trainer and that some day she will get me certified as a dog trainer. i love animals and this is a dream for me.

but the lady I’m grooming for right now is nice and we’ve become friends and i feel bad that she is changing her adds. but her adds do not say my name on them. we do not have a contract or anything. and she has kinda been pushy when it comes to my scheduling and pricing. she wants me to charge more and over book myself. she doesn’t come right out and say that but that’s how it makes me feel.
what should i do?? and if i do switch places how do i tell the lady I’m working with right now?? any advice would help thank you.

Yes switch. Just tell the lady your sorry but a better opportunity has come along and you just can’t let it go by. Hopefully she will understand, if not…her loss.
