Four Reasons Why You Should Groom Your Dog

Dog grooming is widely practiced by many dog owners for various reasons. How and what kind of grooming people do differs from person to person, some because of time, others because they love their dogs while others are motivated by real benefits. I will outline here four simple reasons why you really need to groom your dog. And just so you know, you will realize that some benefits are for you!

The first and most important reason is the dog’s health. Dog grooming, especially bathing obviously removes dirt which is a direct health benefit. More than just the removal of dirt, washing of dogs reduces conditions such as itching, which results in scratching. When this goes unchecked, the dog may develop skin infections such as thrush. A simple wash with shampoo will prevent this and keep the dog healthy. If you keep your dog clean, you will no longer worry having it inside your house, on your couch, or even your bed.

The second reason for grooming is the prevention of matting. Matting basically refers to the tendency of hair on dogs to get tangled up. This is common in long haired dogs. Simple grooming activities like bathing which involves use of a brush, brushing and combing of a dog on a regular basis will significantly reduce the incidences of matting. If on the other hand you do not groom your dog, the tangling can become so bad that it becomes very painful to try fixing them. This is not to mention the fact that mats form a good habitat for dirt and its associated problems discussed above. Ironically, the only solution to serious matting is another grooming procedure hair clipping.

The third reason for grooming your dog is its general appearance. In the same way that grooming improves how we look, which explains the presence of mirrors in our homes, your dog’s appearance is highly dependent on how well you groom it. Washing, combing, hair and nail clipping all play a key role in giving your dog that shinny attractive look.

The forth and equally important reason for grooming your dog is emotional attachment. The process of grooming requires that you touch your dog for prolonged periods, and bathing even has a massage effect. These procedures will connect your dog with you at deep levels than most people realize. Many people are amazed about stories of dogs saving lives of their owners at times of distress by raising the alarm. Do not be, that dog knows its owner at an emotional level, it can detect distress.

Having a dog, or any pet for that matter, at home comes with a responsibility. It’s like having an additional member of the family. As a dog owner, it is your responsibility to take good care of your pet. If you are new to being a dog owner, you are going to need to need any dog grooming tips you can get. The information above will help you take care of your dog through proper grooming.

Why Should I Groom My Jack Russell Dog

Why should I groom my dog? Can’t my dog take care of himself? The answer may seems understandable to dog owners who have had dogs for some time but I regularly get asked this questions by new dog owners. Despite this day and age, many of these new dog owners still think it is a waste of their time to groom their dog. As a result of that they just send their dogs to a professional dog grooming salon to get the job done as and when they like it. However I would like to highlight to you at least 6 benefits of grooming your dog on a regular basis and the additional benefits that I have personally experienced by grooming my dogs myself.

The six benefits to grooming your dog rightly on a frequent basis include:

1. Grooming increases the total health of your dog

Grooming enhances your dog’s overall health in multitudes indirect ways. By grooming your dog, he may feel mentally and physically good because of the attention you are giving to him. On top of that, your brushing of his coat is a form of massage that helps him to improve his blood circulation – boosting muscle mass and minimizing infections. His immune system is further improved through proper and good diet.

It can ensure that your dog is mentally and physically in top condition as a result of the attention. Too, it can enhance the circulation, boost muscle mass and reduce the likelihood of infection.

2. Grooming promotes the health of your dog’s coat
Regular brushing and grooming of your terrier’s coat encourages the health and vitality of your dog’s skin. Brushing regularly generates the blood flow underneath your dog’s coat. This in turn stimulates the cells and that they get the oxygen they need via the bloodstream. By washing and brushing, you also help your dog to clear the toxins that may get caught in his fur

3. Grooming takes away smells associated with dogs
You know that smell, right? You can always tell if you walk into two dog owners’ house – one who grooms his dog on a regular scheduled basis while the other only does it not a consistant basis. If you regularly give your dog a bath as a part of his grooming schedule, you will find that you will keep the “dog smell” to a bare minimum. In fact your dog will even smell good

4. You can spot problems before they arise
By grooming your dog regularly, it provides you the opportunity to be close to your dog. In this way, you are able to to spot anything that may happen to your dog before it arises.

5. Reduces the cost of grooming
The costs of grooming at the professionals’ are getting higher and higher. As such, why don’t you save some money and do the grooming at home, instead?

6. Enhances the bond between yourself and your dog
Make it an enjoyable time for both you and your dog in each of the grooming sessions. The more time you are with your dog, the closer the bond is between you and your best friend. Your dog will feel your love for him and he will reciprocate

Proper dog grooming on a schedule basis is important to keep your dog healthy. If you groom your dog by your ownseld, you will be able to spot problems before they happen and it will also help to develop the bond between you and your best friend.

My favorite tool is my fingers. But I’ve get a short-haird, no undercoat dog. I just take him outside and rub and rub and scratch and scratch until all his loose hair flies in the wind.

I do have a curry brush, but the fingers just work best.
