You can learn all breed dog grooming by taking some classes or courses designed especially to meet the needs of those who want to make a living out of this profession. Plenty of schools have appeared over the years, and presently certification can now be obtained online too, as part of long-distance training programs. Once the all breed dog grooming training is complete you can move on to the next level: starting your own business. Vet centers, rescue centers, kennels and local groomers service local neighborhoods. In case you are trying to launch your business, you should first invest in grooming equipment such as table and brushes.
All items of equipment have a certain role to play, and you don’t know when some will prove very useful. Be reasonable in your pricing policy, because, this too attracts customers.
Lots of books have been publish under the very same title of ‘All Breed Dog Grooming’; they are usually written by people who have experience in working with animals and who can share their tips and knowledge with others. Nevertheless, although such guides are practical and useful, they do not qualify one for a real dog grooming career. The part with the professional grooming a dog training tips and steps we’ve mentioned above stays valid. Any business requires certification and authorization, and those are the first things you should be concerned about!

Dog Grooming Table question by Chetco: I’m a dog trainer but stumped! Is there a way to keep my dog from wagging tail so hard?
I have bred this lineage for over 20 years, and this is the first time I’ve had this problem. My 75 pound male beats me PAINFULLY with ihis tail! It is just like being beat with a hose. I hate to scold him to make him less happy, but I actually have bruises from being beaten by his ‘love’. When I stoop down I get it across my face, (OUCH!)when I stand up I get it on my butt or leggs. He is 29 inches at the shoulders, so hits me high. He also knocks anything within tail reach off the tables, especially the dining table. Putting him on the grooming table is taking my life in my hands. He is always a big happy clown. Has anynone else solved this problem?
I was thinking that perhaps Great Dane and other giant breeders would have the same problems.
The ‘sit’ option is very good! I am showing this kid, so it isn’t practical to teach him to sit when approached, but if I wasn’t that is an excellent idea! Perhaps after his show career is over.
Answer by southernbell601 This deffinatley sounds like a problem for you and only you. When a dog wags its tail it is just like when a human smiles or crys they have no control over this function. It is simply just a reflex of their emotions. When a dog is scared they put their tails between their legs. They cant contoll this because it is not a choice they make. (like chewing things or jumping on you) If you punnish him for wagging his tail he wont understand what he is being punished for and overall you might get a very depressed dog. so the best thing to do is try to avoid the tail when he is happy or excited or just block it with your hand.

The hallmark of a healthy, happy and good looking pet is brought about by the kind of grooming that is offered to the pet. Whatever the dogs breed it is a basic requirement that dog owners provide grooming sessions so that the dogs can always look and feel their best. Most dog owners prefer to use dog groomers who are better placed to offer such services. However, this does not mean that the owner cannot make the effort and have fun grooming their pets. This requires the dog owner to have knowledge of certain steps that expert groomers use to have the maximum grooming session. These secrets range from how to get rid of unpleasant smells from the pet to which shampoo to use in cleaning the dog.
It is good for dog owners to understand that although dog brushing is an important part of the cleaning process, dog grooming is not all about brushing. It involves various stages of bathing, cleaning the dog’s eyes and ears, trimming their hair and also clipping the pet’s nails. Brushing gets rid of mats and tangled dog hairs. Knowing the correct method to use when brushing and the appropriate type of brush to use for the specific brush types according to the digs hair is also vital. These brushes vary in the sizes of the pin or rubber parts that do most of the brushing. Having the appropriate tools and equipment generally means that the grooming process will not be as difficult as it may seem at times. These tools include clippers, combs and scissors.
The dogs face is its important feature as one can tell more from the look of its face whether they well taken off dogs or not. Cleaning this part of the dog involves the cleaning of its eyes, ears, teeth and nails. The tools to be used her are a clean piece of cloth that is moistened and this is used to swipe on the specific area being cleaned. This piece of clothing should be changed to a fresh one when cleaning another are of the dogs face. It is advisable not to probe too deeply, especially when cleaning the inside flap of the ears. This cleaning should be done regularly to prevent dirt and bacteria from accumulating on the dog’s skin. This is very true with dogs that have loose facial skins.
Shedding in dogs is a common phenomenon and this happens seasonally in almost all dogs. It is important that each dog owners knows the best ways to control how much their dogs shed. It is known for a fact that male dogs shed lees than female dogs. Therefore, this should not be concerned for most pet owners if they happen to see their female shedding every now and then.
The one great benefit of a pet owner cleaning their dog rather than taking them to dog groomers is that they notice signs of inflammation and take the necessary precautions of consulting a vet. Additionally, this grooming session can be a good way of the dog owner bonding with their pet.

dog grooming question by JJ: Dog Grooming business on your own. Could one person handle a shop alone?
I would prefer not to hire employee’s at least to start. This would not be a mobile dog grooming business but a stand alone shop.
Answer by TM1070 yes, you can. I have 3 friends and all of them own grooming shops. At least 2 of them started out by themselves. One still works it on her own, out of her home and she makes really decent money. She usually does about 11-16 dogs per day (depending on the grooming need of the dogs). Even if you charges a flat rate of $ 25 per dog, that’s still a minimum of $ 255 per day. She works 5 days a week but is closed Sat after 1PM and all day on Sunday.
The only thing that’s going to cost you to get started is the equipment you need to have (scissors, brushes, clippers, blades, dryers, cages and of course a tub). There are some sites that you can find on the computer which sell used grooming equipment (such as grooming tables). I would be careful though about buying used clippers and blades. I bought a clipper with 4 blades for $ 100, thinking it was an awesome deal, but the clippers didn’t work and the blades were all dull.
Good luck

Are you Fully Equipped to Groom Your Dog?
Article by Richard Perkins
Suppose you have acquired a new dog and would like to take good care of it including grooming it. What equipment and supplies should you have? To answer this question, we first need to answer a preceding question. What does dog grooming entail? The five basic things you need to do for your dog, besides feeding and taking it for a walk are: Bathing it, clipping its hair, trimming its nails, brushing or combing its hair and cleaning its ears.
So then, what tools do you need to achieve this? The first is a washing basin, bucket or better still tub. Your dog needs it own container for bathing. This container should have sufficient volume to fit the dog and have a shape that makes it easy for you to work unconstrained. The other associated tools and supplies include a shampoo, and brushes.
The second major equipment you need is a dog grooming table. An ideal table will have a lever that allows you to raise of lower it to your size; it should also be skid free so that the dog does not skid as you work. It should also have a handle where you can fasten the dog to prevent it jumping off or moving around while you are grooming it. Rest assured tables like the one we are describing here, and even better exist in the market.
Since you need to clip your dog’s hair, you will need hair clippers. There are various types of clippers available including simple scissors if need be. Most clippers are electro-powered. You can either get those that have a cord so that you connect to power as you clip or the cordless types which use rechargeable cells. The clippers also vary by size. Heavy duty clippers are faster but there will be situations when you prefer low to medium duty clippers.
Your next tool is a nail trimmer. Like hair clippers, there are many types in the market and you can get either manual or electric. Modern electric nail trimmers even have in-built technology that enables you to know when you have reached the dog’s quick.
The tools and equipment discussed here are not all there is. We have not discussed others like hair brushes, and ear cleaning tools but these are basically the most crucial tools and supplies to have. As a final thought, you need to know that you may need to learn some of the grooming procedures.
