A Wonderful Collection of Stories, January 13, 2011

I enjoyed reading this fast paced book. If you want some light literature with plenty of laughs mixed with some real life drama, then this is the book for you. I am not usually a big fan of reading about animals or stories about jobs that I know nothing about, but this book was fascinating for me to delve into because it is written in such an engaging way that allows the reader to empathize with the author as you take a ride with her life’s journey through the dog grooming world. The stories never lost grip of reality with too much silliness like some stories do, so it was comforting to see such good balance of wit and wisdom. The parts of the book that were the best focused on the relationships that were formed through the business and to see how various conflicts played out in sometimes very interesting ways. Kudos to Mrs. Nieman for her literary achievement!!

LOVE ANIMALS? THIS IS FOR YOU!, September 26, 2010

In 21 years of dealing with quirky employees, cranky vans, and uncooperative weather, Jan Nieman never lost her sense of humor while she was beautifying pampered pooches, outrageous cats, and even a wolf or two.

Occasionally humiliated but never outsmarted by crafty canines and shifty felines, her confessions will make you laugh out loud. Picture a cat hanging upside down from the headliner of a mobile grooming van! Other experiences are sweet, poignant and will tug at your heartstrings. It’s a book to re-read on dreary days when you need something to lift your spirits.

Bottom line: Gone To The Dogs is a warmly written collection of real-life stories for all ages. Read it aloud to your children and share their giggles as everyone learns what it means to go to the dogs!
